Early releases of Red Hat Linux were called Red Hat Commercial Linux; Red Hat first published the software on November 3, 1994. It was the first Linux distribution to use the RPM Package Manager as its packaging format, and over time has served as the starting point for several other distributions, such as Mandriva Linux and Yellow Dog Linux.

Installing, Updating and Uninstalling software in linux Red Hat

1) qa (query all) :

It will listed all the package which are install
 #rpm -qa 

2) q (query) :

It check whether specific package install or not
 #rpm -q package name 

3) qi (query install) :

It check whether specific package install or not if not install it
 #rpm -qi package name 

4) i (install) :

It install specific software package
 #rpm -i package name 

5) iv (install verbose) :

It install software package with detail
 #rpm -v package name 

6) u/f (update) :

It update package, which is install if the package not install, U will install and update but F will give error
 #rpm -u packege name  #rpm -f packege name 

7) e (erase) :

It remove package which is install
 #rpm -e package name

e will erase which is install and not working
